I am sad to read the comments of marthese my son a royal marine commando was on that ship a man that has spent a lot of his childhood on holiday on your very friendly and unique island. He was so looking forward to returning as a commando on illustrious and he was not disappointed at the welcome he received. The men and women on that ship would give their lives for malta. Grow up Marthese.

Goody goody the war ship is at last off our island, we do not need any foreign war ships we are a free country and independent at that.

And if we ever needed their assistance-what then or is this possibility too far-fetched to contemplate? To be truly at peace we must always be prepared for war!

How naive ! - You probably think that we could have remained untouched by WW2 if we hadn't had British bases here.
And who do you imagine would be the first country we would look to for help if someone attacked us ...Italy ? or Libya, perhaps ?
Unless we can defend ourselves, then we are only Independent for as long as others allow it.

@ Marthese Schembri
I seem to remember a song which went something like "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose" If you want peace, be prepared for war. Unfortunate but true.

Dear Christopher ,
Sorrry to disappoint you but my patience isn't that strong.Just reciting the first 2 lines of the melancholy, but very accurate, sailors lament which after 10 years service in the MOB -some on active duty-I think perhaps I may be entitled too?
