Hotel director tampered with electricity meters
The director of the former Les Lapin Hotel in Ta’ Xbiex was this morning conditionally discharged for one year and ordered to pay €160 in court expenses after he was found guilty of tampering with the hotel’s electricity meters.
Dieter Fenech, 36, from Mellieha had been charged with tampering with the meters and defrauding Enemalta of €32,000 worth of electricity.
He was charged following an inspection in July 2002, when it had been noted that the red seals in the plant room had been tampered with.
However, he was acquitted of stealing the electricity as the consumption remained the same even after new meters were installed.
As the person in charge, he was found criminally responsible for damaging the seals.

Seems like e Schembri, Paul Camilleri and Gorg Scibberas have declared themselves as judge, jury and executioner. May I suggest to all three of you to go back to school and learn how to read. Schembri since you blatantly laid down your attack can you please explain where the 32,000 came from when the consumption of electricity remained constant based on Enemalta admission!!!!

How about paying the €32000 back to Enemalta plus fines and interest?
As they say, in Malta it pays to be a criminal!

ACQUITTED... since consumption remained the same after the meters were changed; therefore no electricity was stolen. The sentence relates to broken meter seals.
Can you imagine a director of Les Lapin going into a plant room and tampering with a meter? The court said "As the person in charge, he was responsible for whoever broke those seals". Normally Enemalta charges LM20 but not this time.

Our courts are really efficient if a case starting in 2002 or thereabouts has cost only 160 Euro!
