Josef Grech, 31, the man currently writing an unofficial biography of Dom Mintoff, was today accused in court of defrauding a car dealer of €44,500.

Mr Grech is already in prison following other fraud cases.

The car dealer, Victor Muscat, told a court this morning that bought cars from Mr Grech, two for €600 and another for €125. He paid through three cheques.

Grech had altered the cheques to read €16,000 each and €12,500.

Romwel Attard, a Bank of Valletta cashier, said three cheques had been presented and cashed.

He confirmed that the accused had cashed the cheques. The person who cashed the cheques was the accused.

Mr Muscat then complained to the bank and an investigation was launched.

Mr Grech denies altering the cheques.
