The number of museum visitors has fallen because the Government insisted on raising ticket prices, Labour Culture spokesman Owen Bonnici said yesterday.

Speaking after National Statistics Office data revealed a steady decline in visitor figures, Dr Bonnici said the Opposition had warned this would happen when fees were raised in 2010.

The drop in numbers, he pointed out, reversed a positive trend that saw visitors increase by as much as six per cent in 2008 alone – very different to the 10 to 12 per cent annual drop in visitors seen since admission charges were raised.
