Thanks to their victory over Alyssa Ashley Loyola, Depiro McDonald’s are the sole leaders of the women’s basketball league.

Luxol began their campaign on a top note after dispatching Hibs while Honey Athleta had the better of Phoenix Petrus Qormi.

Much more was expected from Hibs but the absence of Joselle Cardona and turnover difficulties hindered their efforts.

Taking advantage from 26 turnovers in the first quarter, Luxol raced into a 19-12 lead. Hibs staged a brief comeback as the second quarter ticked off, closing the gap to a basket, 21-19.

But Luxol recovered to change ends 38-26 ahead. Any hopes of a Hibs fightback were dashed soon after as Luxol went on a 20-7 run.

They eventually won 71-47.

Depiro dominated Loyola who were erratic in their shooting.

Depiro all but sealed their win by half-time as they led 48-14, going to win 72-41.

Athleta bounced back after their defeat against Hibs to beat Phoenix Qormi. After a balanced opening, Athleta began to pull away to close the first quarter 20-7 ahead.

Qormi battled back to share the exchanges, trailing 33-24 at half-time. However, Athleta regained control in the fourth quarter to coast to a 56-38 victory.
