83 persons were taken to court for illegal bird trapping between January and the end of October, Justice Minister Chris Said said in reply to a parliamentary question this evening.

67 were found guilty.

26 were arraigned in Gozo and 18 were convicted .

The minister told Labour MP Michael Falzon that the convicted persons were fined €400 each for a total of €26,800 in Malta.

The fines in Gozo totalled €6,311.47.
