Events and Urban Regeneration – This event will consider international experience on how events act as catalysts for urban regeneration and the relevance of this experience to Valletta, European Capital of Culture 2018. It will be presented by Andrew Smith from the University of Westminster and Karsten Xuereb from the Valletta 2018 Foundation, tomorrow at 7pm at the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Republic Street, Valletta.

Exploring the Mediterranean Deep Sea – A public lecture on this topic by Marco Taviani, research director of the Institute of Marine Sciences, Bologna, will take place on Thursday from 6 to 7pm in the New Biology Resource Room, Department of Biology. The lecture is organised by the University’s Department of Biology and attendance is free of charge.

Digital Survival of Maltese: Building a Roadmap – This workshop aims to formulate a roadmap for the digital future of Maltese that defines a set of strategic goals in three areas impacted by language technology: education and research, national language policy and language-related industries.
It is aimed at people interested in the future technological evolution of Maltese and will be held on Saturday from 9am to 1pm at the University’s Valletta campus. Participation is free but places are limited. To attend, e-mail georgiana.gilmeanu@um.edu.mt.
Medical Humanities – The Humanities and Medical Science (HUMS) programme will make its first appearance at the eighth edition of the triennial Malta Medical School Conference to be held at the Westin Dragonara Resort, St Julian’s, between November 29 and December 1.
The interdisciplinary foray into the medical scene will bring to the conference a range of papers interfacing arts with sciences, on a variety of topics.
The list of contributions relating to the emerging field of Medical Humanities will be led by keynote speaker Michael O’Neil from the University of Durham, on The Might of Healing Springs: Writing, Health and Disease in Shelley (and Mary Shelley).

European Robotics Week – Mcast is organising several activities aimed at inspiring students to pursue robotics-related careers and creating awareness of the importance of robotics in our daily lives, as part of this month’s European Robotics Week.
Groups of secondary school students will be invited to visit the college’s main campus in Paola on November 29 and 30 to find out more about the world of robotics.
They will take part in hands-on robotics exercises and meet Mcast students involved in various robotics-related projects as part of their studies in applied science, electronics, ICT or mechanical engineering.
