Preparations are currently underway for this year’s fund-raising Christmas market at San Anton School, L-Imselliet, next Sunday from 10.30am to 5pm.
Wooden stalls are being set up, featuring traditional decorations, gift-wrapping, home accessories, gifts, jewellery, wooden toys, advent calendars, poinsettia, chocolates, gourmet foods, spices, festive treats, homemade jams, chutneys and many more original gifts and stocking fillers.
The final touches are being placed on Santa’s grotto, where children will be able to meet Santa while rehearsing for their respective role in the live crib.
A wooden stable has been purposely built for this crib in the school picnic area under a large carob tree. With the support of local farmers, this stable will also house live sheep, lambs and a donkey on the day itself to transform the area into a Nativity scene.
Children visiting the market will be spoilt for choice. They can listen to stories, write their letter to Santa, watch a film at Rudolph’s Mini-Cinema and participate in art and craft sessions and baking workshops. Bouncy castles and a go-kart track will delight the little ones in the play area, while they can also have their portrait sketched as an extra-special Christmas gift for grandma.
The Stagecoach children’s choir will be at hand to ensure the festive spirit and all those present will be regaled with a performance by the cast of this year’s Christmas panto – The Wizard of Oz by MADC. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the actors and also purchase tickets for the local production.
