Briton Lewis Hamilton won the United States Grand Prix in Austin Texas this evening in his penultimate race with McLaren.

He came in ahead of championship leader Sebastian Vettel, who however stretched his lead over Fernando Alonso in the championship to 13 points - meaning that the drivers' championship will be decided next Sunday in the final race in Brazil.

Vettel started from pole followed by team-mate Mark Webber and Hamilton third.

Hamilton was able to pass Webber and a close battle with Vettel followed until he managed to pass him as well.

Alonso started from seventh and quickly advanced to fourth, moving to third when Webber retired with an alternator problem. He then had a quiet race and came in third, some 40 seconds behind the leaders.

Team mate Felipe Massa was fourth with McLaren's Jenson Button fifth.

Red Bull have now won the Constructors Championship for the third year in succession while Ferrari and McLaren are in battle for second.
