Outpatients urged to confirm their appointments
Mater Dei Hospital has urged outpatients to phone its Customer Care Department to confirm their appointments before calling at the hospital.
It said that some patients had been affected by industrial action ordered by the UHM. Paramedics had also been ordered not to answer the phone and patients were therefore not being informed that their appointments had been called off.
The hospital therefore urged outpatients to phone on 25454184 or 25454286 to confirm their appointments.

this is an essential service and the administration should apply this as such and should take the necessary steps as patients should become first.

Whilst I am sure there are very valid reasons for industrial action some professions should not be permitted to strike especially when it is to the detriment of people's health

MDH management should be sorting out the employer-employee relationship, without having patients risk suffering from misinformation.
The employment conditions and customer service are different aspects of management that especially in the case of healthcare, should not be mixed up and politicized, in my opinion.

this could easily be resolved if the Minister of Health and the Minister of finance find the necessary funds to pay the paramedics their decent wages and give them better conditions, its been far too long to wait for a solution now the agreement is 5 years overdue. we need to express our worries and demand a better future for the professional work we do. UHM keep it up we are backing you.

So after months of waiting we are told to confirm the appointment. I am not going into the merit of the Paramedics whether they have a right or not but just going to ask whom they are going to hit the patient or the authorities.

Well said Mr Zammit. By ordering a strike the UHM is fully responsible for the hardship to the patients who perhaps have been waiting a long time to get an appointment and also other people who are using the POYC scheme.
