(Adds Rural Affairs Ministry's reply)

The PL spokesman for the Environment has reiterated his call for an urgent audit of the Marsa incinerator.

He said in a statement the plant had again stopped working after being in operation for just four days after undergoing repairs, which were not in any way related with the scheduled maintenance works.

Leo Brincat said his request was being made in the best interest of health and public hygiene.

In a reply, the Rural Affairs Ministry said that the incinerator was stopped yesterday for a technical inspection of damage in the refractory. A technical note on WasteServ's electronic site said it was not working.

Mr Brincat, the ministry said, should learn how these modern technologies were operated.
