Man who could not pay bail jailed
A man who turned 61 today was remanded in custody because he could not afford to pay his bail bid of €2,000.
Emanuele Magro pleaded not guilty to stealing an iPhone and a wallet from a car in Sliema.
He also pleaded not guilty to handling stolen property and relapsing.
He was granted bail against a deposit of €2,000 but was placed in jail as he could not afford it.

This is outrageous. Can we talk of justice when the people with money can have provisional liberty while the poor ones are kept behind bars? Something must be done immediately if we insist that we are civilized and Christian.

61 is pension year,.the money could have been withheld from his pension.
