A 42-year-old unemployed man from Msida was remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to defiling his partner’s 14-year-old daughter.

Two mobile phones containing video clips of the girl allegedly engaged in sexual act with the man were presented to the court as evidence.

The court heard police inspector Louise Calleja say that the girl and her mother and some family members had turned up at the police station worried sick and scared and making the sexual assault allegations.

Inspector Calleja told the court that the family spent many years completely controlled by the man.

The mother knew that her daughter was being abused but was scared to do anything. The family, Inspector Calleja said, did not know any better and had mother had even stopped working because he ordered her to.
