I bet very few people would write an ‘appreciation’ of Josette Bickle, the so-called Queen of the Prison, who was serving a 12-year jail term for trafficking drugs in prison.

She lured many young girls by promising drugs in return for other favours.

Yet Josette was also a human being who suffered a lot as a child and continued doing so as a young woman.

Nobody will ever know the real Josette because she never let them. When I spoke to her once, I could see the pain in her eyes, pain that I knew would never go away.

Maybe had she lived, she would have opened her heart to someone, but she never did. No matter how many people surrounded her, no matter how much she laughed, Josette was the same little girl with the unbearable pain in her eyes.

The end came soon for Josette, who was only 43, but maybe God did not want her to suffer any more.
