Sliema road park plan
The Sliema local council plans to activate the residents’ parking scheme soon, according to the residents’ association.
Committee members said they were informed of this during a recent meeting with mayor Anthony Chircop.
The project is independent of the Ferries underground car park proposed by Resources Minister George Pullicino.
At the meeting, the association reiterated that the high car density on Sliema’s roads meant the parking scheme had to be supported by a holistic traffic manage–ment plan and park-and-ride facilities. It also proposed incentives for residents and visitors to make better use of their vehicles.

If the council did more to encourage people to use bicycles, residents and visitors alike, but especially the later, there would be more parking spaces available.

Unfortunately, this is easier said then done. Sliema has many steep streets which make it hard for people to use a bicycle as you are suggesting, not to mention their width is so restricted that bicycle lanes will have to replace on-street parking, which is definitely of higher priority, at least for the residents. The door-to-door mentality of non-residents will also have to change drastically

i fully agree with Mr Borg comment, my mother is old and lives alone and we her sons tend to share outs nights sleeping at ther house if i cannot park there and an emergency arose during the early morning hours what is a person to do? i would suggest that smart parking metres be installed and that way the meter can take 2 tariffs thereby giving everone the opertunity to park

2 tariffs ?? no cant anyone see this pure money making scheme . first come first serve nothing more .
would i leave my car at sliema if i am not sleeping there ? would i leave my car in siema and go sleep at pembroke ? just another money making scheme punto basta , like PV removed most spaces for parking hence no option but to use carparks .

This might sound good for residents, however it is discrimination at its best. We all pay full road licences and as such, all vehicles must have the same right to use all the Maltese road network. Residents should have sought dwellings with car parking facilities within the building rather than overlooking such an important feature.

Sliema will face the same finale of Valletta.
I have given up going to Valletta and now I'll simply include Sliema on the list as well.

Once upon a time the residents of a seaside town were very happy about the fact that parking spaces were reserved for their exclusive use. Shortly afterwards, all other towns and villages followed suit, and everyone was very happy. They had to be, because now their cars had to remain parked in their hometowns and could not be used, because no-one had permission to park anywhere else.
