Safety at fireworks factories (1)
I wish to know whether the Occupational Health and Safety Authority is involved in ensuring health and safety standards at fireworks factories. If not, why not?
Why is OHSA or any other safety-related authority not addressing the provisions laid down in the Control of Substances Hazardous/Harmful to Health regulations?

We are Maltese and we do as we please. That seems to be the consensus. No politician would dare tackle something so controversial. First they have to estimate how many votes it will cost them. I don't think there is one political party that has enough guts to put a stop to all this. The ones to stop this madness is the church but again the church has none of those either. How pathetic is that?

Same questions everytime a firework factory blows up.

I have never encountered anyone before ever mentioning the critical COSHH regulations except myself and which I have done on many occasions to all the relevant authorities -none of whom have ever provided an answer. Now that non-response attitude is truly is the same every time.Ever considered providing an answer to any of them?

With all the safety regulations that such a lab should have in place. Protective clothing, nothing that could cause sparks, protocols ...? Nah.

Non-existent

It's a too specialised field, Mr. Murray.
And still, it won't make any difference. It's like certifying a crane to be safe to use, but the operator overloads it and causes it to topple. Would OHSA have made any difference? Absolutely not.

COSHH is not too specialised as you intimate sir, but it most assuredly would -and indeed does -make a massive difference in more-safety conscious and enforcing countries contrary to your claims. Are you suggesting that OHSA should not exist then it it cannot make any difference and what then do you suggest would make a difference?

I meant that the fireworks production as being specialised, not COSHH...
COSHH would make a difference, but in the end it boils down to the individual.
We read that in Malta we are still using highly instable material for fireworks, which has otherwise been banned in other european countries. There we can improve.
Many individuals become too confident, and they cause accidents.

Thanks for info and whilst attitudes like this prevail theere is no hope for change. All that is required for evil to persist and flourish is for good men to do nothing!
