On World Diabetes Day, celebrated worldwide on November 14, the Maltese Diabetes Association, in collaboration with the Diabetes and Endocrine Centre and Mater Dei Hospital, will be organising a national seminar to further increase awareness on diabetes and its complications.

The theme of the seminar is Sharing Diabetes Mellitus With Your Loved Ones. It will be opened and addressed by Stephen Fava, head of the centre at Mater Dei Hospital.

The seminar will feature people relating true life stories and their experiences as a wife, husband, mother and daughter of diabetics. A young child with type 1 diabetes will share her positive outlook after being diagnosed with this chronic condition, a psychologist will speak about how relatives can cope with living with diabetes, and a specialist nurse will provide an educational point of view.

The seminar will be held at the Catholic Institute in Floriana on Saturday from 9am to 12.30pm. Refreshments will be served. Entrance is free.

The general public, members of the medical profession and medical students are encouraged to attend.
