Look at the cars in these pages and notice that aftermarket sports wheels are very often on these types of extreme 'accidents'. There is an impression that sports wheels make a Peugeot or Hyundai drive like a Ferrari. It doesn't. The insurance companies should do a study on this and adjust premiums accordingly. A bit of positive profiling.

Be assured that the real version will never be known . Drunk, drugged or not we maltese always try to keep silent but you never know it could be your neighbor . It is not only the roads and please dont call them accidents they are negligence

I am sure that when Maltas roads were all potholes and people had to drive slower there were less accidents.
I know we used to call the potholes "Inverted speed bumps"

I think that Dr Jekyll who was frustrated by re-trying the driving test for the third or fourth time (could be a racket, you know!!?) finally got through and was given the licence. Then he turned into Mr Hyde and just speeds on and screeches the car's tyres at night-time and performs dare-devil feats. But little does he know that one day it will be his turn to suffer. More police rounds please.

How can you collide head-on in a dual carriageway with crash barriers?

I have seen a few accidents over the years in Ireland where cars flipped over usually in very wet conditions or in ice or snow but how do so many manage it in Malta? I have even seen a car on its roof in a street practically no wider than the car! A film stunt coordinator would have trouble doing this.

Is this called Losing Control of a vehicle? We are becoming a bunch of maniac, loony toon drivers. Maltese drivers would make easy stand ins for driving in Hollywood movies. We need those extra cowboy police riding motorcycles. You know which ones I am talking about,"tat-traffic". Wardens don't do the job except make big money for the Local Councils.Only the cycle police can slow down this madness

@ C Cassar
What you say maybe so, but when was the last time ( if ever ) a London taxi cab flipped over on a straight road in perfect driving conditions ?

Kullhadd ghaddej bil-galbu as we say in Maltese. How about all cars having a Speed limiter by national law? No need to be too drastic, let's say 85 km per hour?
Daniel Vella
Nov 11th 2012, 14:27
Seriously speed limiter by national law? Please let me know in which country, being smaller or larger than us, which applies such a law???

85 KM /hr is too high for Malta roads, first have to educate ourselves on driving with decipline , then talk.

Can somebody explain how somebody can flip a car on a straight road in perfect driving conditions ?

one might say a maltese driver can but of course i will be shouted at if i said that.Unreal.

i am surprised there are not more accidents going by the way MOST Maltese drive
Peter Murray
Nov 11th 2012, 13:30
It's nobody's fault Steven as the driver simply "lost control of the vehicle "!For according to the police this is all that ever happens with apparently this never being anyone's fault!

irridu ndahhlu l-mentalita tal-PACENZJA u li woehed ghandu jcedi mhux jimpika fit=toroq. Ma tara lill hadd icedi lill xi hadd iehor jew biex johrog minn side street jew f'xi roundabout. kif jarawk se tohrog izidu l-ispeed minghajr ma jharsu lejk. maggoranza tax-xufiera arroganti.

Arroganti normalment ikun min johrog minn xi side street jew ghal go xi roundabout bhal li kieku hu ghandu dritta. Regolamenti qieghdin hemm biex issegwijhom u mhux taqbizlek tistenna u twahhal f'min ghadnu id-dritta!

Especially Taxi Drivers and Gov Departments, which think they are kings of the road. I have been repeatedly intimated by these people, just because I am a woman. They bully you and if you dont get out of they way they rudely flash their lights at you, honk the horn, or call you names! PASTAZATA! These should be regulated! Some dont even respect rules like, lights, indicators, give way etc!

Seeing this distressing picture of this road accident and reports of a further three accidents on the same morning brings to mind of a holiday I had in Malta some years ago.I got talking to a London taxi driver who had just arrived in Malta the day before,he had rented a car for the duration of his stay but after one morning he returned the car to the car hire company, shocking driving and manners

London taxi drivers are some of the worst drivers anywhere, they speed, ignore all traffic regulations and charge extortionate prices.
Peter Murray
Nov 11th 2012, 15:53
And Maltese taxi drivers are saints by comparison aren't they?Yet London taxi drivers seldom rip anyone off with fares ,as guess what ...they have meters and actually use them
C Cassar
Nov 11th 2012, 17:32
Yes they do. Try taking a taxi from Heathrow into London. a 20min ride will cost you at least €80. If that isn't a rip off then what is?
David Hill
Nov 11th 2012, 19:10
Can I surgetst that C Casser looks at http://www.heathrowairport.com/transport-and-directions/getting-into-london.
They estimate Heathrow to central London as aprox. 1 hour, £45 - £70.
C Cassar
Nov 11th 2012, 19:52
@David Hill:
Sorry, that is wrong. Enter Heathrow to Trafalgar Square in google maps and you'll see that it's 17 miles and takes 30mins. Therefore €80 is a rip off, the price should be nearer €20 but that's black taxis in the UK. Best to avoid them completely.

Taking your advice Idid and found this http://www.worldtaximeter.com/london?to=Trafalgar+Square&from=London+Heathrow+Airport&time=18-53&phone_booking=by-phone
Diatance 27.94 km.
Time 38 min.
Cost £ 59.60
I think trafic must have been fairly light

Very, Very True.... So what if London they charge extra, are rude and don't observe regulations? Malta should be the same? Come on! Don't get me wrong not all of them are the same. I live in the south and I happen to use the airport area frequently, taxis are a nightmare there, they rush and speed in every way, being a huge danger to other drivers!
Charles Caruana Carabez

Clearly we need a campaign which drums this message into drivers' minds: 'IT WON'T HAPPEN TO ME' -DON'T BE STUPID, IT WILL!
john vernon
Nov 11th 2012, 13:53
No disrespect to those out there that abide by the law Charles, but what you need is a police force that enforces the law, and citizens that follow it, 60km speed limits mean just that, not 60mph, malta was stupid adopting KPH on its signs when 90% of its cars are in MPH, what the drivers think of it says 60 so i will go 60 a differnce of 23mph. 60kph is a lot more survivable than 60mph

Rules need to change for example an accident in a built up area with one driver hits a stationary car and ends up with the two cars in total loss and brake marks over 22 meters the police are not involved as no one was hurt. Cameras should be portable and placed in different locations with out any notice except that speed limits being indicated in all roads.
