Compatibility of faith and reason (2)

• For those who do not believe in God, no explanation is possible.

God demonstrated His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

The word of the cross is folly to those who do not believe; but for those of us who do believe, it is the power of God.

It’s not conservative or liberal, however they’re defined;

It’s not about interpretation, or the judgement of the mind;

It’s the opposite of politics, power or prestige;

It’s about a simple message and whether we believe.

We can decide to water down theology and also preach a word to suit our needs.

We can justify sweet subtle lies that are wrapped in noble deeds.

We can alter our convictions to adapt to social whims.

But we cannot change the gospel and neither can we change the truth contained within.

Though some may say it’s man’s religion, or ancient history, the cross of Jesus still remains the price for sin that sets us free.

It’s still the cross; it’s still the blood of Calvary that cleanses sins and sets the captives free.

It is still the name, the name of Jesus that has the power to save the lost.

It is still the power of the Cross.

What about the sophistication of theology. Christ's teachings were meant to be simple and understood by illitterate persons. Thanks to Paul of Tarsus, the historical Christ was replaced by a theological one and exported to Rome, the highway to the then civilized world. Jerusalem was destroyed and the historical Christ forgotten or redefined to suit the gospels.

You mean you never heard the story about the snake, the apple and Adam and Eve? Maybe that is where the saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". Alas it did not keep Adam away.

First look at a mirror, then at your whole life, finally at at the newspaper headings. Original sin stares you in the face.

Gerry Cowie: 'Prepare .. for an onslaught .. comments ..'. Taking a page out of certain chubby [by his own admission] correspondent's book and making statements like this is not clever, it's an attempt at control.

@TonyBorg.
How often is that? When you are not in church, pretty often I guess, you may still avoid a "sermon" by skipping that Letter to the Editor, not making a song and dance about it, and graciously allowing others the freedom to choose.

He chose to reply. Would you deny him that choice?
