Forensic tests have confirmed that three of the victims of the fireworks factory explosion on Sunday were men aged 24, 56 and 75.

They are Bryan Portelli of Nadur, Mario Gauci of Munxar and Peppi Cini of Fontana.

Another victim, 55-year-old George Gatt of Fontana, had already been identified as his body had been found relatively intact.

The factory Qalb ta' Gesu, was flattened by three explosions, the first two in rapid succession at about 2.45 p.m. and the third some 30 minutes later as rescuers were starting their search.

A joint funeral is being held for Mr Cini and Mr Gatt at the Fontana parish tomorrow at 4 p.m. A cortege leaves Pompei Church at 3.30 p.m.

Mr Gauci's funeral is at the Munxar parish on Monday at 4 p.m. and Mr Portelli's at the Nadur parish on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Qala St Joseph Firewoks committee announced this evening that there will be no fireworks during the feast of Immaculate Conception on December 8 as a sign of respect for the victims.
