Bus driver files false police report 'to get fired'
An Arriva bus driver claimed he was the victim of a hold-up so that he would get fired, the court heard this morning.
Espedito Said, 38, of Nadur admitted to filing a false police report about a hold-up which did not take place.
He said he filed the report, in which he claimed that €200 were stolen, because he was so fed up with his job that he wanted to get fired.
He was given a two-year conditional discharge.

because if you resign from a job you are not entitled to social benefits when you register for work

I don't think he would have been fired just because he was held up. I think that he invented the excuse simply because he was caught. A lame excuse nonetheless.

His real reason is to get back on the dole. If you quit your job you have to wait for months to get your weekly cheque, if you're fired you automatically qualify. Maybe a parliamentary question on the number of gozitans on the dole might be in order.

Well that's why Arriva is in shambles, because of the drivers and not Arriva, as a company.

oh really Mr philosopher and what is making the drivers so fed up. Could it be the farce system and the incompetent personel incharge of Arriva.

Let's see if we can understand this..If Arriva fires you, You don't pay for the bus driving training they gave you?
If one leaves on his freewill he/she have to pay for the Bus training (Arriva buses only automatic) about 1000.00 euro..

How amazing! When most people are looking for work, this bus driver wants to get fired. One question, but why didn't this driver do the honourable thing and quit or resign from the job on his own?

".........because he was so fed up with his job that he wanted to get fired."
We may not have your job Mr.driver, but we commuters are fed up too (with the services of Arriva).
I wonder what the PL would do to make it workable, should it get elected.
For me, Public transport is a daily must: so I need concrete answers before approaching the ballot box!

Totally agree with you Mr. Borg, I don't use Arriva, however my husband does and a trip that with the old service used to take him 25 minutes is now taking him a shameful 90 minutes, all because there are not enough buses and the stages are always full up with people waiting! Basta zmien il buzullotti ghadda!
Thanks Minister Gatt!

If you get fired, you can claim social security payments straight away. You cannot claim if you resign from a job for some period of time.
