Ten men from Somalia and Eritrea left Malta today to start a new life in the United States.

On arrival, the men, who had been granted protection in Malta, will be assisted by non-governmental organisations to proceed to their final destinations in various states.

This is the second departure of migrants from Malta to a third country this week after another 10 migrants flew to Ireland yesterday morning.

This latest departure brings the total of beneficiaries of international protection who were resettled to the United States from Malta since 2007 to 1,081 migrants.

270 migrants have been resettled from Malta to the United States of America since the beginning of this year.

More beneficiaries of international protection are expected to be sent to the United States in the coming weeks.

In all 1,763 refugees and beneficiaries of international protection have been relocated or resettled to various other developed countries since 2005 – 373 this year.
