A court had ordered the destruction of 3,200 mobile phone headsets, 128,800 mobile phone covers, 68,000 phone batteries and 9,000 chargers which arrived at Malta Freeport in two containers in January and  February and were found to carry a fake Nokia label.

The decision was taken by Mr Justice Mark Chetcuti at the request of the brand owner Nokia Corporation of Finland.

The court heard that the mobile phones and accessories were in containers which had arrived from China and was being transshipped to Morocco. The containers were stopped on orders by the Comptroller of Customs.

Samples from the cargo were checked by Nokia representatives, who confirmed that they were counterfeit.
