14,090 counterfeit Nike sports shoes and 759 cases each containing 10,000 false Marlboro cigarettes, are to be destroyed by the Comptoller of Customs on orders of the law courts.

The consignments were found in containers which arrived from China earlier this year and were landed at Malta Freeport for transshipment to Algeria (in the case of the shoes) and Libya (in the case of the cigarettes).

The products were inspected by representatives of Nike International and Philip Morris, who declared them to be false.
