A-League: Adelaide United moved into the outright lead at the top of Australia’s A-League yester-day as Sydney FC disintegrated in the absence of Alessandro Del Piero. Dario Vidosic’s free-kick was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Adelaide and inflict a second straight home loss on champions Brisbane Roar. Sydney FC are set for a week of soul searching after their 7-2 humiliation dished out by Central Coast Mariners.

Kehl: Borussia Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl will face Real Madrid tomorrow in the Cham-pions League wearing a mask after breaking his nose on Saturday. The 32-year-old was fitted with a special mask after he came off only 20 minutes into Dortmund’s goalless draw against Stuttgart after being elbowed in the face by Stuttgart’s Raphael Holzhauser.

Adriano: Barcelona defender Adriano will be out for three weeks after suffering a leg injury during Saturday’s match against Celta Vigo. The Brazilian was substituted seven minutes before half-time. It gives coach Tito Vilanova a further headache in defence with Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique still out with injuries, although the pair are back in training.

Marseille: The Ayew brothers scored a goal each as Marseille closed the gap with Ligue 1 leaders Paris SG after a 2-0 win at AC Ajaccio yesterday. Marseille moved to second place on 22 points. They trail PSG, who lost 2-1 at home against St Etienne on Saturday, on goal difference but have a game in hand.

Fans barred: Dinamo Zagreb supporters were barred from travelling to watch their team play Paris SG in tomorrow’s Champions League group match by French Interior Minister Manuel Valls. Valls explained that he wanted “to avoid any serious security risks to people and property”. Some 80 PSG fans had been stopped on the Slovenian border with Croatia and refused entry last month on their way to Dinamo Zagreb’s home match against PSG.

Boenisch: Bayer Leverkusen have signed former Werder Bremen defender Sebastian Boenisch to plug holes in their defence after a string of injuries. The 25-year-old Poland inter-national, who was left without a team after his contract with Werder ran out at the end of last season, received a deal for the duration of the current campaign.
