Malta International Airport will open its Departures Lounge to locals in a public event that offers those who rarely or never travel to experience the feel of going through the airport on December 13 from 6pm till midnight.

Visitors will experience the whole process of travelling, by ‘checking-in’ to receive their ‘boarding card’, which will enable them to go to the Security Screening Area. There, they will be screened and allowed to move on to the Schengen and non-Schengen Departures Area, as if they were travelling.

Within the Departures Lounge, they will be able to shop or dine, while also availing themselves of festive season offers usually available to passengers.

Shoppers can also take part in the Malta Airport Shopping draw, which was open all summer to passengers purchasing at least €75 worth of goods. A Mazda MX5 will be drawn the next day.

Guests will also be treated to Christmas carols by an a capella choir, and performances by a bagpipe band, while children can meet their favourite Disney characters and take photos with Santa.

The event will not affect normal airport operations as there are no departing flights scheduled for these hours. For further information, log on to www.maltairport.com or send an e-mail to shopping@maltairport.com.
