Mohamed Bin Hammam, the ex-Asian football chief, has lost his appeal against the temporary ban imposed on him by FIFA, the Court of Arbitration for Sport announced yesterday.

FIFA is currently investigating Bin Hammam for allegations of bribery and financial mismanagement. His suspension from football was last week extended by 45 days by FIFA’s ethics committee.

The Qatari multi-millionaire, who played a key role in Qatar’s surprise win in the vote to host the 2022 World Cup, was banned from the game after being found guilty of bribery during his election campaign to replace FIFA president, Sepp Blatter.

In July he had a lifetime ban imposed by FIFA overturned by CAS on grounds of insufficient evidence with the proviso that the case could be reopened if fresh evidence came to light.

Bin Hammam, who maintains he is innocent, believes the charges are motivated by political reasons.
