Diesel price up, petrol down
The price of diesel has gone up 1c while that of unleaded petrol dropped 2c, Enemalta said.
It said the new rates reflect the prices it fetched for the latest shipments of imported fuel.

I just have one question - whether this yo-yo happens also in the neighbouring european countries.
I read some complaints in the UK, but over there the prices only go one way - up!

I cannot understand why Kerosine should be priced as much as Diesel, I think it should be 60% cheaper (stand to be corrected) Buses no longer use kerosine and this was the primary reason for increasing its price. Heating with kerosene in winter could result in cheaper heating. thanks

The price is dictated by the international markets not by local transport.

Buses where not the only vehicles to run on Kerosene. Now-a-days the other vehicles use normal salphour diesel (the old one which used to produce alot of black smoke). The licence for importing this was initially to permit industry to use a cheaper fuel for operating fixed machinery. However, this is being illegally used in motor vehicles too especially trucks. But nobody seems to realise this.

All these "European" countries have cheaper fuel than Malta.. Austria, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus,Czech Rep, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Spain etc. etc... Hardly any are economic powerhouses so one has to think that Government greed and taxes, bureaucratic miss-management and inept buying policies are behind this farce!

I honestly think that given our size these are good prices when compared internationally. Forget about wage comparisons when talking fuel prices, this is an imported product that the seller doesn't care how much you earn, either you afford it or not!
Justin Spiteri
Nov 1st 2012, 10:43
True, the seller doesn't care ... but the authorities who set duty on fuel should... they are local.

For those of you like to know the current fuel prices in most countries, including EU ones, see below:

i remember a time when petrol was 8c and all of a sudden was jacked up to 17c5 when was this?? i know for sure that our them Prime Minister Dom Mintoff had made an agreement with Then Gadaffi to supply us with cheap petrolium, so i ask myself why on earth did he increase the price of petrol?

"In most countries, people say, if you don't afford to own a car & pay its fuel - use public transport"
What an understatement!
Prosit for keeping our moral high!!!!

Dear Mr Sammut,
I am very sorry to say but Nadir Sammut is absolutely right. It's our maltese mentality that instructs us to believe that we must have a car to do anything. If all employees who work in Valletta, for example, ue public transport, we would reduce traffic by, at least, 20%. I cannot understand why the majority of university students use their own car.
George Camilleri

@ Joseph Borg
if all employees who work in Valletta use public transport, can you even begin to imagine what the situation would be at bus stops? As the situation stands, people are left stranded because of over-flowing buses...
so just picture all those who work in Valletta trying to use public transport.
+ students, + workers in other localities. Nifthu task force ohra filkas.

The lack of price stabilization is normal.
In all the countries I lived in, the same gasoline stand's price varies morning to evening & Monday to Sunday.
I think the issue at heart is the cost buying fuel in general (and its quality)
In most countries, people say, if you don't afford to own a car & pay its fuel - use public transport.

This has by now become the classical monthly farce!
One month the cost of petrol goes down by 2 cents the next month it goes up by 4.
The END result is that in a whole year the cost of petrol has increased by 10 cents and our pockets are becoming threadbare by the month!

For some funny reason the gas oil for heating is never touched before winter comes in or nothing at all .is this strange to you all? So dear enemalta stop fooling us around because some of us monitor european prices every day and we know exactly what is going on. Another thing is that funnily enough no other competitor here in malta is authorized to sell fuel where this can stop such monopoly.

Tajjeb, issa naqas 2 cents l-unleaded, wara xahar jerga joghla 6 cents ohra, u bil-mod il-mod il-petrol tiela mas-sema. Almenu jimissa issir rata reali tal-prezz taz-zejt u l-prezz li nixtruh ahna zgur li jkun orhos. Jista l-Gvern inaqqas it-taxxa min fuqu b'hekk ikollna prezz tal-petrol aktar komfortabbli ghal-but taghna. Imissa issir rata specjali ghall-anzjani ukoll.

Buzz,buzz.buzz. These things are as important as the death of a fly...when either petrol or diesel goes down in price. Whoever is concerned loses on the roundabout and wins on the swing. Buzz off. Had enough of this nonsense.
