Nominations for PN deputy leader open on Wednesday

The Executive Committee of the Nationalist Party decided this evening that nominations for the election of deputy leader will be received between October 31 and November 14 and the voting will take place between November 29 and December 2.

The election will be run by a commission headed by Francis Zammit Dimech and composed of Dr Anne Fenech, David Casa, Boris Xerri, Dr Sonia Vancell and Kevin Plumpton.

Any member of the party may be nominated for the post. He/she does not need to be an MP. Voting will take place even if there is one candidate, and the post will only be considered filled once the candidate wins the vote of two-thirds of the councillors of the party.

The post of deputy leader became vacant when Tonio Borg resigned upon being nominated to serve as European Commissioner, succeeding John Dalli.
