Mahmoud Jibril, Libya’s former Prime Minister and one of the masterminds of the Libyan revolution, will be addressing a bureau meeting of the European People’s Party in Malta next month.
The high-profile two-day meeting, to be held on the invitation of the Nationalist Party on November 15-16, will bring together the leaders of the EPP delegations in the European Parliament and senior European politicians.
Themed More Malta, More Europe, the meeting will be discussing the latest economic developments in the eurozone and the Arab spring.
It is also expected to be addressed by Greek Prime Minister Antonio Samaras, Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdessallem and Morocco’s deputy Prime Minister Nazar Baraka.
This is the second high-profile meeting to be held by the EPP in Malta following the study days held in 2007.
A senior PN official confirmed the meeting and told The Times it had been earmarked a long time ago.
It had nothing to do with the party’s campaign for the general election, he said
“It is an honour for the PN that the largest political group in the European Parliament has once again decided to meet in Malta. This shows the respect Malta and our two MEPs Simon Busuttil and David Casa garner among the EPP group,” the spokesman said.
EPP leaders are also expected to be addressed by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
