The Sliema council has embarked on a new waste management strategy and will be collecting rubbish in black garbage bags in the evenings, between 7pm and 10.30pm, as from Thursday.

The new collection time means rubbish trucks will not block Sliema’s narrow streets during peak traffic hours. Collection on Saturdays will take place at noon.

The evening collection will mean residents do not have to take their rubbish out late at night or before leaving home for work due to the present collection time of 8am.

In the summer months, garbage will also be collected on Sundays.

Mayor Anthony Chircop said the new strategy was aimed at addressing its waste problem.
