Bank of Valletta has appointed 60 staff members as the bank’s ‘green leaders’, who have been given the responsibility to act as ambassadors to promote an environmentally-friendly culture, complementing the bank’s ongoing green initiatives.

The green leaders will identify ways in which bank practices can become greener; but just as importantly they will encourage the staff and bank customers to contribute towards reducing waste and saving energy.

To launch this initiative, a one-day training event for the green leaders was held at the Bird Park in Burmarrad.

The bank has set itself challenging targets for reducing its carbon footprint.

By 2013 the bank is aiming to reduce its energy consumption by a fifth through a combination of PV panels and more energy-saving air-conditioning units, more efficient lighting and changes to its IT systems.

The bank is also following a comprehensive waste management programme.
