Tonio Borg’s hearing by the European Parliament has been provisionally set for November 13, the EP Press Service has announced.

Dr Borg was appointed European Commissioner-designate for Health and Consumer Affairs on Monda following John Dalli’s forced resignation last week.

In the hearing, Dr Borg will be grilled by one or more committees within the European Parliament, which would be assessing his suitability and competence for the post.

Labour leader Joseph Muscat said yesterday that the PL was supporting Dr Borg’s nomination, however, his appointment should not be taken for granted because of certain declaration he made in the past which had reached Brussels and which would need to be addressed.
