Prison authorities held responsible for death of livestock
A farmer is holding the prison authorities responsible after his livestock died when he was not allowed to feed the animals.
Angelo Bilocca said in a judicial protest that he was taken to court on October 5 (accused of association to traffic drugs) and subsequently remanded in custody. Following his request, the court recommended that he be escorted to his two farms in order to feed his animals.
However, he said, the court recommendation was ignored by the prison authorities.
So far, he said, 280 chickens, three pigs and 17 rabbits had died because of lack of care.
He said there was no reason to deny him permission to be taken to the farms under escort in order to take care of the animals.

It is surprising that this case gets only a small notice - apart from the farmer having "suffered" losses, how about all of those animals who suffered a slow death from dehydratation and hunger?
Very strange that the farmer could phone no one (even one of the animal sanctuaries indeed, at least to spread the word) to ask them to take care of those who were under his care and relied solely on him.

If this is true, it's a case of animal cruelty through neglect. They should have at least asked the SPCA to feed the animals.

Doubt they can actually do that. However they could have been taken into care by the Government authorities.

It is a crying case of animal cruelty, only it is being overlooked probably because it's not a cute puppy or a kitten, but rather what people are used to calling "livestock" - thinking, feeling, LIVE animals who were, like puppies and kittens, waiting for their master to come and feed them.
