Caritas pioneer Monsignor Victor Grech was last night awarded the European Citizens’ Prize for his contribution to Maltese society.

The prize is awarded by the European Parliament to individuals that have distinguished themselves through outstanding commitment in promoting the European spirit.

Mgr Grech was nominated by MEPs Louis Grech and Simon Busuttil who yesterday presented the award at Europe House in Valletta on behalf of the President of the European Parliament. Joint MEP nominations for this award are an exception.

Mgr Grech will now head to Brussels to meet European Parliament president Martin Schulz.
