The Government has appointed Antonio Ghio as non-executive chairman of the Malta Communications Authority following the resignation of Philip Micallef who is expected to join a regulatory authority in Bermuda.

Dr Ghio graduated as a lawyer from the University of Malta in 2001 and, that same year, obtained an LL.M with distinction in information technology and communications law from the University of Strathclyde.

He has been practising as a lawyer for the past 11 years handling exclusively technology-related matters, including intellectual property, internet security, data protection and computer contracting, among others.

Dr Ghio is a partner at Fenech and Fenech Advocates and heads its ICT law department.

He is a member of the Chamber of Advocates of Malta, the International Bar Association and the International Technology Law Association.

He is married and has a son.
