Libyan jailed for threat
Man already charged with murdering his wife
A Libyan man accused of killing his wife was jailed for four months for threatening and disobeying police officers while being escorted to prison.
Nizar Al-Gadi, 34, of Sliema was found guilty of threatening Police Inspector Keith Arnaud and disobeying orders on July 28.
The incident happened when Mr Al-Gadi was being escorted back to prison after being charged with murdering his former wife, Margaret Mifsud, a lawyer.
Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona heard that, while in a police car on their way to Corradino Correctional Facility, Mr Al-Gadi told Mr Arnaud he could prove he was not in Dr Mifsud’s car when she died.
Mr Arnaud said that the accused then started insulting him and making obscene gestures. Mr Al-Gadi also threatened him, saying he had family in Libya who would track the officer down and harm him.
Dr Mifsud’s body was found in her car in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq in April.
The autopsy and forensic tests revealed that she had suffered from traumatic asphyxia after her killer went on top of her, pressing her chest against the seat and preventing her from breathing.
