71,000 old Yellow Pages collected for recycling
Yellow Pages is set to export 110 tonnes of paper to be recycled at a mill in Canada, having successfully completed a nationwide collection of its old books, replacing them with the new edition.
Almost 71,000 books were collected this year, 7.2 per cent more than last year.
In recognition, for its ongoing efforts to contribute for the preservation of the environment, Yellow Pages (Malta) Ltd was awarded the Conservation Award for Sustainable Development in 2011.
Yellow Pages thanked the public collaborating.

To collect old copies it's good, but to end up with about 3 new copies does it really make sense. Maybe one should be asked if they require a copy, since many tend to go online.

Most of them were probably still covered in plastic.

A really good effort and much appreciated Prosit!!! But i'm sorry I don't agree with distribution, How many trees were killed to print all those? How many have yellow pages books and use internet or call phone enquiry for a number.

On a yearly basis a substantial number of businesses are opened and other businesses close. For this reason the company feels that Yellow Pages should be issued every year. From research conducted by an independent company, it transpires that 80% of the Maltese population still prefer to use the book to source businesses, products and services.Additionally, 9/10 people use the Yellow Pages regularly

The reason behind it is because a large number of companies open each year and closes each year...so you have the updated book at your convenience... during the first years the yellow pages started doing these books they were being printed every two years...I think there was a better reason apart from earning money from the adverts...Yellow Pages has expenses like every company...

Before printing YP's.
With the telephone bill one should receive a form to confirm if one needs the yellow pages .
Then the number of yellow pages books is printed on order.
The subscribers collect the yellow pages against return of the superceeded[old] version from Local Council.
This is the only way Malta will rid itself from surplus littering of yellow pages from our streets 100% .

Agreed that there should be centralized collection point for anyone who wish to get a copy of YP (Newsagents / grocer / Maltapost), but I don't think it will work with a form in a phone bill. YP is a private company and so is Go/Melita, etc, so why should there be any connection between them?
