A crofter has successfully “swum” his cows across the sea to their island grazing ground for the winter.

Iain Macdonald is thought to be the last person in Scotland to move his animals this way. His 19 cows took around 15 minutes to swim approximately 100 metres from Skye to nearby Staffin island, where they will graze for three months. (AP)

Crocodiles on the loose

Schoolchildren in Vietnam were given a day off after a number of crocodiles escaped from a farm and were seen roaming around residential areas.

The reptiles were prowling around densely-populated neighbourhoods after breaking free, according to Thanh Nien newspaper, which said the Kim Dong school had closed “to ensure safety for teachers and children”.

Nearly 60 of the animals had been rounded up after the wall of the crocodile farm collapsed because of rain erosion, but it was unclear how many others remained at large. (AFP)

Facebook at the wheel

Obsession with new technology means some drivers are now even uploading images from Facebook while at the wheel.

As many as nine per cent of motorists send texts while driving and five per cent answer calls on hands-held mobile phones, the survey by Motors.co.uk found.

Worse still, two per cent check or update social media accounts and one per cent upload a photo or image to or from a social media site. (PA)
