Tristan B jailed for nine years
Entertainer Emanuel Balzan, known as Tristan B, has been jailed for nine years after being convicted of fraud of €750,000.
He was found guilty of having defrauded a Gozitan farmer in a case which happened in 2009.
The farmer, Joseph Sultana, had said he had lent money to Balzan after having been falsely promised that the funds would be returned along with investments and access to agricultural aid.

Why can't everybody know a charmer when they see one? They are all over the place, everywhere. They'll charm the pants off you any day. One can smell them a mile off. Usually fashion-victims but not necessarily.
Wonder whom he'll try to charm while locked up? Bet he'll try. And some sucker will fall for his dubious charms. Maybe sing for extra portions? Let him go hungry. Sad man!

not an original idea. . .already done successfully to help in prision reformation of inmates. . .
cruelty is outside prison much more than inside!. . .maybe someone that wrote a comment herw is much and much more guilty than these inmates and had found others to coverup his cruelties and beastialities!. . .who knows if someday you join his choir there! it will be great! the more the merrier!

I feel terribly sorry for the gozitan farmer and for all those who have been defrauded, but i would never ever think about giving such lump sum of money to someone I barely know no matter how big the promises are.

The courts of Malta deliver yet another unusual sentence - is he directed to refund the money and were all his assets seized for the victim? - probably not this being Malta.

That's the rub! I feel that if one is found guilty of misappropriation or fraud the court should get the guilty party to make amends + interest and costs! And not simply lock the guilty person in a cell and let him/her enjoy the spoils!

If not, I am seriously considering doing something similar as it would take me at least 20 years

time I will have still 11 years of hard and honest work!!!

The average worker would have to work for forty (40) years to earn such an amount at today's salary.

So, we know what price the courts value 1 raped life ... approximately 277,000EUR
750,000 / 9 = 83,333.33
83,333.33 * 10 = 833,333.33 / 3

I think that before pointing all our fingers towards this very talented singer (because eveyrone seems to forget about that, he was once touted as the Maltese Frank Sinatra) we should think about the reasons for which he needed those money.
Does he have a sick child who needs loads of money for the cure?
Was he blackmailed by something far bigger than this case?

Your suggested reasons are in no way an excuse to defraud anyone, and yes the Courts would know the facts before issuing sentence., so the would be Maltese Frank Sinatra should have known better and is now paying the price of his illicit gains.

Tax Dept & VAT can never check the amount of money any farmer in Malta or Gozo earns.
One just has to look at the cars that they drive to know the size of profit they make. in addition, they also get funds from EU, which is mostly pocketed.
One of the many "professions" that evade tax and cannot be caught.
