The location of the planned circus at Naxxar has been changed to the parking in front of the former Trade Fair Grounds, the council said in a statement today.

Residents of Naxxar have been petitioning against the planned circus, which was to be situated in a field bordering St Paul Street, a main road, close to the old Trade Fair grounds.

The council said this afternoon that it had discussed the matter during a public meeting in August during which the residents’ preoccupations were all considered.

Councillors had unanimously agreed there was no reason why they should object since they were convinced that the organisers were taking all necessary measures for there not to be unnecessary inconvenience for residents.

In spite of this, the council requested the organisers to move the circus to the parking in front of the Trade Fair. It also asked for the field to also be used for parking to avoid unnecessary problems. The council’s request was accepted, it said.

The council said that the organisers would also be cleaning the place daily and if this was  not done, it reserved the right to issue default notices against the organisers.

The  council noted that the majority of shows were being held at 5.30pm and at 7.30pm with the shows being over by 9.30pm.

Circo Fantasy, being brought over by Circus Events Ltd, plans to open its doors between November 8 and December 9.

You know, not every one is a so called "animal lover", especially with the mess of feces that your pets leave on our streets, pavements and open spaces.

So just like we NON pet owners tolerate your pets, do the same and tolerate people with different ideas.

Having said that, I don't go to circuses as I don't consider circus animals entertaining, but others do, so have some respect.

Here in Swatar we have tower cranes constantly building every nook and cranny. Everybody has one problem or another in their residential area. So don't be too surprised, after all we live in a Mickey mouse country.

Well said, Mr Agius. But it seems that in so-called civilised Malta (not!), non human animals have no rights at all.

Have you ever had the misfortune of seeing how animals are treated before being slaughtered to provide the "pure beef" for take away hamburgers.

It astounds me a lot, the way people like Mr DeMartino manage to bring in arguments that have absolutely nothing to do with the argument at hand.
1. How do you know that I condone burgers?
2. What makes you think that I condone the way many animals are slaughtered?
3. Difference between food and entertainment, anyone?
U leee!

Mr Farrugia must have misunderstood my comment. I wrote what I wrote NOT to condone the cruelty inflicted on these poor animals. Absolutely not, but I made my comments to make readers realize that animal cruelty is more widespread than we think. Yes, there is a difference between food and entertainment. I wish you could see how these animals are treated BEFORE they are slaughtered.

For example: a thick rope tied round the neck of bull and a tractor dragges the poor animals all the way to the slaughterhouse. And some 3 or 4 bas....kicking the poor animal in its face for no reason whatsoever. But you have to see these obscenities yourself to see what I mean.
