Kenneth Gafa', the man accused of murdering his former partner Christine Sammut, remained behind bars today after a court refused his request to reduce the personal deposit required for him to be released on bail.

Sammut is accused of having shot Ms Sammut in her van in Zebbiegħ on December 11, 2010. He also faces charges of defrauding her father.

Following his arrest he made nine requests for bail before bail was granted last August, but the court ordered a personal deposit of €15,000, which Gafa' said he could not afford.
