Communications Authority gets new chairman

Antonio Ghio has been appointed non-executive chairman of the Malta Communications Authority.

His appointment follows the resignation of Philip Micallef, who is expected to take up a new post in Bermuda.

A practising lawyer for the past 11 years, Dr Ghio has been handling exclusively technology related matters including intellectual property, internet security, data protection and computer contracting.

He is a partner at Fenech & Fenech Advocates and heads its ICT Law Department.

Dr Ghio also lectures ICT Law and Cyber Crime at the University and has been a
member of the MCA board for the past four years.

He is expected to take up his post in the beginning of December.

You don't really have a good understanding, it seems, Mr./Ms. Pisani. The "EU people", as you call them, were squarely against ACTA.

However, ACTA apart, don't you think there's something fishy in an appointment of a chairman who happens to work in a private law firm (this is no longer a Board Member, remember, but the chairman)?

It's very good to see you so convinced, because I am not convinced at all by this decision.

Dr. Ghio was one of the most ardent proponents of the ACTA, on account of which he should not have been given the post. He will also have a clear conflict of interest if he retains his position at Fenech and Fenech.

I would have loved to see a fresh face leading the MCA rather than a stale one.

Sorry but I have scoured the Maltese lexicon and cannot locate this term as applicable in Malta.
