A second animal circus has announced it will be coming to Malta, only a few days after the first got embroiled in a controversy with residents who are protesting its choice of venue in Naxxar.

The annual arrival of circuses to the island in time for the festive season attracts attention from animal rights activists’ who in the past have taken to the streets in protest.

This year, 70 Naxxar residents have joined the chorus, signing a petition against the Circo Fantasy, being brought over by Circus Events Ltd, which plans to open its doors between November 8 and December 9.

The petition is being sent to the local council and the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa).

Yesterday, a second circus announced its arrival.

Circo Darix promised to wow audiences with some 60 animals, including white lions and tigers and even a hippo besides farmyard animals such as pigs and rabbits.

The circus will be here from December 12 to January 6 and will be occupying the Granaries in Floriana.
