Archbishop Paul Cremona has said he was “looking forward” to working with Mgr Charles Scicluna, Malta’s new Auxil-iary Bishop.

Speaking to The Times at the inauguration ceremony of a new chapel at St Benedict’s College Boys’ Secondary in Kirkop, the Archbishop expressed his confidence that he will have a good rapport with Mgr Scicluna.

“He is very accomplished and has many years of experience behind him. He is more knowledgeable than I – he is an expert in canon law.”

Mgr Scicluna’s appointment as Auxiliary Bishop will help alleviate the Archbishop’s engagements.

“My visits to the parishes take up a lot of time. I’ve visited 49 out of 70 so far – there are still 21 more to go.”

Mgr Cremona blessed the chapel, calling it “a refuge one can turn to when lost; a place where one can listen to the Lord’s comforting words”.

Works on the chapel, which was previously the principal’s office, were initiated in May 2011.

It was designed by the school’s design and technology teacher Johann Micallef as part of the school’s development plan and its theme is “Walking in Christ’s Steps”, symbolised by the large orange cross behind the altar and extending down the aisle.

The students presented Archbishop Cremona with an artwork on wood as a memento of his visit.
