PM 'to act fast' to nominate new Commissioner
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said today he will be acting fast to nominate a new Commissioner from Malta.
Dr Gonzi was speaking at the European People’s Party Congress in Bucharest.
He referred to John Dalli’s resignation from the European Commission yesterday saying:
“This week we were all shocked by the unexpected resignation of Mr John Dalli, the member of the European Commissioner from Malta, following revelations of an investigation conducted by the anti-fraud office, OLAF. Mr Dalli has categorically denied any wrong-doing but resigned his post in order to defend his reputation and that of the Commission.”
Dr Gonzi said he was fully committed to the integrity of the institutions and will be acting fast to nominate a new Commissioner from Malta.
“I will be communicating with President Barroso in this sense immediately in order to make sure that this episode is quickly closed in the interest of public trust in the institutions.”
Dr Gonzi is accompanied by MEP Simon Busuttil, PN information director Frank Psaila and Ryan Callus, vice-president Youth of the EPP.

one thing is for sure, Dr Gonzi and his merry men could learn a thing or two about responsibility from Dalli.
Guilty or not guilty, Dalli resigned !! Dik hi l-irgulija ! Now justice will take its course, correctly hopefully.
PN MPs would do well to follow suit due to their PROVEN disasters.

Will we be seeing someone independent of politics appointed to this position? I doubt it!

our prime minister is in a rush on this issue and the selling of an abondoned private hospital to the state......usually he is very patient expecially when it comes to taking votes in parliament

@ Victor Bonello
'GonziPN time is well over. They have brought Malta on its knees both financially as well as credibility. '
Well Mr Bonello , History is proof enough. If you check on any time Malta had the misfortune of having a Labour Government from the 1950's onwards you will see the results, huge unemployment, civil unrest, corruption, erosion of human rights and the list goes on .

sewwa qed tghid imma dawn in-nies iridu li ninsew l-istorja u nghixu fil-futur biss. Li jekk jerga jkun hemm gvern tal-labour bl-istess nies tal-passat ikollna l-istess stejjer. iridu jnessu l-passat sabiex jisirqu l-voti taz-zaghzagh li ma jghixuhx. Il-Malti jghid li min jitwieled tond ma imutx kwadru, u hemm proverbji ohra li ma nixtieqx insemmihom hawn ukoll.

Dear Prime Minister
I think that the most adaptable peron to fill John Dalli's post is only Dr Simon Busuttil. He is well versed and known in Eoropean Affairs.

Mark Borg I think that your Joseph should go back there and let the Labour Party become a serious opposition and not make promises that he will not be in a position to keep. He has already made a good figure for himself in Burssels so he should go back there and take all the old ex Mintoffian ministers with him to teach Europe how to save on fuel.

gonzi won't be obeying EU commisioner Swoboda advice then who said ( and i cut and paste)

Why is Labour in such a hurry to appoint a commissioner. Whoever the government appoints now will only have two years to go anyway, then Labour can appoint Alfred Sant or whoever it wants.
