• A jumble sale in aid of the Our Lady of Fatima parish church, Guardamangia, is currently being held at the parish centre from 9.30am to 7.30pm. The sale closes on November 12.

• YWCA (Malta) will be organising its monthly tea card party on Wednesday at 4.30pm at the Plaza Hotel, Sliema.

• An evening of prayer for peace and new evangelisation of the world will be held on Wednesday from 5.30 to 6.30pm at Madonna tal-Ħerba church, Birkirkara, by the International Movement of Prayer Blessed Pope John XXIII. There will be Mass, followed by 20 minutes of adoration. All are invited to attend.

• The Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Malta Section is organising an annual activity for its members on Friday from 6 to 8pm at the Main Hall, Villa Bighi (MCST), Kalkara. The activity is also commemorating the institute’s 50th anniversary and is supported by the Malta Council for Science and Technology.

The activity will consist of two presentations by international distinguished lecturers, followed by refreshments. The two presentations will discuss newly emerging technologies: Design of Green Networks: Towards the Green Internet, by Prof. Fabrizio Granelli, and Calm Down or Calm Up: How Should We Measure Calm Interaction? by John Brown.

• The committee of the St Catherine Band Club youth section, Żurrieq, is organising a Playstation 3 tournament next Sunday at the band club premises. The game played will be Fifa 2013.

• To commemorate Missions Day next Sunday, the Missions Office at Merchants Street, Valletta, is organising a day of activities, starting with Mass at 9am at the Domus Sagra Familja in Żejtun, followed by the inauguration of the Mission Village at Marsaxlokk Square, where a number of missionary societies will display stands. Mission Fest will also be held with a number of activities for children, adults and all the family. There will be music, singing, discussions, food and items handmade in mission countries for sale.

• The Malta Floral Club is organising a day out at the Bird Park, Burmarrad, on October 25. Members and their friends are asked to book early by calling Lily de Conti Manduca on 2135 4160 or Monica Chetcuti on 2148 8089 by October 23.

• A weekend retreat for married couples will be held at Manresa retreat house, Victoria, from October 26 to October 28. It will be directed by Fr Vince Magri, and Carmen and Karm Conti.

• The Cana Movement is organising a series of talks on contemporary Church teachings and approach to marriage and the family to encourage public debate and promote healthy marriages.

They will also serve to train leader-couples of its marriage preparation courses. The next talks will be as follows: November 6 by Christine Galea, January 15 by Robert Tufigno, February 12 by Fr Joe Galea Curmi and April 30 by Mgr Anton Gouder. All talks will be held in St Paul Hall, Catholic Institute, Floriana, at 7pm.

• The St Joseph School Past Pupils’ Association (Sliema) is holding a celebration of the Eucharist in remembrance of all deceased students, teachers and Sisters of St Joseph at the chapel of St Joseph School, Sliema, on November 9 at 6pm.
