AFM opens Luqa base to the public

Various AFM regiments were today displaying specialist skills and tasks for the public as part of the annual Open Day at Luqa Barracks.

The open day this year was held to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the formation of the service.

Skills displayed included explosive ordnance disposal.

Visitors could also watch arms handling displays and anti-aircraft gun firing drills as well as gun ceremonial drills by the Air Defence & Fire Support Company.

A range of military hardware was on display and soldiers were available to explain how the hardware is used and answer questions.

Visitors also had the opportunity to test their blood pressure and glucose levels by the army’s Medical Branch.

CPR techniques were demonstrated by the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps and the National Blood Transfusion Services was on site to promote its services.

The AFM's Astra Cinema was also open to the public.

The open day is open until 6 p.m.
