A Spanish man was arrested at a hotel with two large bags of cocaine, a court heard yesterday.

Benito Domingo, 26, formed part of a drug ring that was smuggling the cocaine into Malta, Police Inspector Herman Mula testified. He had arrived on the island last week before being caught in a controlled delivery.

A Nigerian man, Paul Ugochukwu Offor, 37, from Spain, had been stopped at the airport on suspicion that he was involved in drug trafficking, the inspector said.

The police found an SMS on his mobile phone saying he should go to the Tropicana Hotel in St Julian’s, where the police then caught Mr Domingo, who was yesterday arraigned on drug trafficking.

Another man faces the same charge: Kingsley Wilcox, 31, from Iklin, turned up at the hotel to collect the drugs, according to the police.

The case continues.
