Birżebbuġa St Peter’s have appointed Patrick Curmi (picture) as their new coach, the Division One club said yesterday.

Curmi will replace Joe Gerada who stepped down from the job following last week’s 3-2 defeat to Lija Athletic.

It was the seasiders’ fourth successive defeat this season and Gerada, who had been at the helm for 18 months, felt that it would be better for the club if a new coach is put in charge of the team.

Curmi, who was at the helm of Tarxien Rainbows last season, has the task of pushing bottom-placed Birżebbuġa outside the relegation zone.

He is expected to make his first appearance on the bench when Birżebbuġa face St Andrews in the FA Trophy on October 20.
